Remembering Nogo Nell--A Bonny Lass

Pete Powers called from Texas and told us Nogo Nell had passed away.  She was 12 years old.  She had spit and vinegar!  No stop to her.  What a Feist.  What a squirrel dog.  Nell's sire was Langford's Rowdy.  I am proud she came from Galla Creek.  Rest in peace, 'Ol Nell.
Nothing more fitting to remember Nell than the poem about Nell written in the 1700's by Robert Burns!  Read and remember Nogo Nell--a handsome Feist, a bonny lass, indeed.

Handsome Nell

O Once I lov'd a bonnie lass,
An' aye I love her still,
An' whilst that virtue warms my breast,
I'll love my handsome Nell.

As bonnie lasses I hae seen,
And mony full as braw;
But for a modest gracefu' mein,
The like I never saw.

A bonny lass I will confess,
Is pleasant to the e'e,
But without some better qualities
She's no a lass for me.

But Nelly's looks are blythe and sweet,
And what is best of a',
Her reputation is compleat,
And fair without a flaw;

She dresses ay sae clean and neat,
Both decent and genteel;
And then there's something in her gait
Gars ony dress look weel.

A gaudy dress and gentle air
May slightly touch the heart,
But it's innocence and modesty
That polishes the dart.

'Tis this in Nelly pleases me,
'Tis this enchants my soul;
For absolutely in my breast
She reigns without controul.

Galla Creek Romeo

Romeo is the grandfather of Rowda (Sugar) Catfish's mother. Rowda's sire is Dan, son of Nogo Nell and Romeo. Nell is out of Old Rowdy. Romeo is out of Bell whose sire is Fred (son of Old Rowdy). Pris is Catfish's grandmother (mother of Rowda. Pris is out of Dale (son of Old Rowdy and brother of Fred). Romeo's sire is Max--who is Spud's sire! Spud's mother is Spook. ;Spook's mother and Max' sire were brother and sister. Around and around the wheel turns--like on wheel of fortune. No matter where the wheel stops on the gene pool of Catfish; it will land on a squirrel dog! Pris' grandmother is Pepper--a daughter of Old Rowdy! Billy Floyd of LA is coming to pick Catfish up tomorrow!

What A Feist

Anna will climb anywhere to get her man---uh, I mean squirrel. Phillip Scoggins has been letting her run out all day in East Texas and Anna has gone insane over squirrels. Anna and Sugar go back to our Romeo, Bell, Rowdy, Ole Max, Ozarks Chief, Allar's Fred, Otis, Lady--and many, many more great squirrel dogs! These pups brother is Dan--the blue tick looking Feist we bred Lia to last time--for those of you that have one of those pups including Nell and Spook that Danny Hooker owns! Thanks Phillip for sharing with us!
Look closely---you will see Anna high in the tree at Phillips Scroggins house in East Texas. Anna is a full sister, same litter to the little Feist in the photo below. Rodney Bowen owns Sugar (we called her Rhoda). Sugar is bred to Spud. Pups are due in a little over a month. If you want a flying squirrel dog....this is your chance.

O Pups Using Their Noses Already

These 3 male pups have homes unless something does not congeal. Otis to Kanas. Ollie to Texas and Oscar going to join Spook and Nell in LA/MS.

We have a couple of females from the litter and I will try to get photos and let folks see them. These should be great squirrel dogs. One female is leaving Saturday to join Galla Creek Sam with the Malone family!

Nogo Nell and Romeo's Dan

Phillip Scroggins shared this picture of Pris and Galla Creek Dan's last hunt of the season. They live in Texas. Dan is out of Nell and Romeo and Pris goes back to Old Rowdy. Thanks for sharing with us. Here is Phillip's email:

Dear, Larry and Betty
Here is a picture of my son Hunter, Pris , Joseph Fentress, holding Galla creek Dan after a short evening hunt in Chester Tx. It has been tuff hunting this year we had such drought this past year. If Pris comes in soon we will make that cross again she will be ten in may so this would be the last time I would consider breeding her . Good news we have had 5inches of rain in the last week. Thanks, Phillip

P.S. This was from a few weeks ago our season has been out since Feb 4.

Scout's New Home

Lee Moore delivered Scout to the Joyner family. Mike emailed that Scout was living in the house with him and they were bonding nicely. Mike once owned Amos Moses and a female pup from whose parents were Nogo Nell and Nelson. Serious illness brought Mike to a point when he had to find homes for his Feists. A new cure gave him a new lease on life. He called saying "I want a Galla Feist squirrel dog again". Lee Moore helped fulfill Mike's wish and now we are just waiting for treeing pictures from LA. Mike is getting a female pup from Dobs or Patch. We wish him the best. When you almost lose your life, you really appreciate a second wind! We love you Mike Joyner!

Spook--Remembered

Danny called and said he was pleased with Spook and Nell. They were born in May out of Lia and Ole Dan. So they are just 6 months old. We asked Danny to please send pictures which he did. It is good to see our pup again. Hopefully she will continue to improve. Thanks for sharing, Danny!

Lia

Here is a picture of Lia yesterday treeing and a closer photo of her. She is a gorgeous Feist and I want to sell her to the best possible home. She is out of Pretty Boy Floyd who is out of Spook and Max. Her mother is Nogo Nell whose sire is Old Rowdy. Lia barks a lot on the tree. She hunts better alone. She was born in 2006. 479 890 8090

Lia Leaning On The Tree

Here is a video of Lia. She is for sale as I got Dobs back from Troy Vance and I kept two young females--Cora and Viper. I do not have room here for as many dogs as I could have at my old place. Anyway, I don't have a male who is very much in line with Lia so I am going to sell here. She is out of a Grand Sq. Champion and a Sq. Champion. Both came from my Kennel. Nogo Nell--Lia's mother--is a daughter of Old Langford's Rowdy. She is 5 years old. She was born in 2006, March.

Galla Creek Spook

I have two young Feists to offer to new homes this season. Spook is the black dog. I snapped these pictures of her in the pen as someone said--"I can see Nell on the side bar but what does that Spook look like ...well, here she is! Price $400.00. She has had all her shots, etc. and is 5 months old. The white dog with red trim is my Viper female and she is not for sale at this time. I plan to hunt her this season and have not decided if I will let her go to a home or keep her here on Galla Creek.

Thanks for checking my Blog. It is really a lot of work to post a photo everyday....and I have been doing it 5 years so there are 1000s of pictures here if you care to look back at all of them! It is great when you send me a picture to share. The Feists don't have to be from MY Kennel. I love them all!
