Pretty Boy Smarty and Axle

Roger Littlejohn owns Smarty and Sterling Earhart is the master of Axle. They are out of Floyd and Smarty. Floyd is from Spook and Max and I think Smarty is a half sister to Spook. The Feists have the same parents, but Smarty is from an older litter. Roger may have to tie his pup to keep him from taking the tree down when he trees.

Thanks for sharing with us, Roger!

Opal & Tut

This is from the hunt I went on with Matt Howell. This squirrel was in a nest I think and I do not shoot nests.

Reason To Keep Posting Pictures

Sometimes I do get tired of posting a photo each day, but Roger Littlejohn, Pete Reimold in TN, Matt Howell, The Vances in TX, Wayne in GA, Adam Patterson and Lee Moore in MS, and lots of others send me pictures to share. I got this one this morning with the nicest note about her Feist and Beagle. Here is the nice email. Ones like this just make my day.
Dear Mr. Renfroe:
I love your Galla Creek website. My friends and I at work visit your site about 3 times a week - it gives us a lift and lots of smiles.
I am owned by a great little Mountain Feist from Virginia. She doesn't have many squirrels to catch here on the coast of Florida, but she has proven herself an excellent rattier when a family of field mice recently moved into my house. Her name is Zena, and along with her beagle/hound mix friend, she has gotten rid of all my mice. The beagle hound flushes the mouse and Zena catches it and disposes of it instantly (thus humanly) much more effeciently than any cat or trap I have ever seen. It is amazing to see the dogs work so well together. I attached a picture of Cholee the hound and Zena the feist- she looks like a couple of the dogs from your kennels. I love my feist - and I plan to always have a mountain feist in my home - I may be visiting you one of these days. Thanks for your great work for the breed and for my favorite site on the computer.
Hope your holiday season is blessed.
Warmly,
Karen Batten

Nelson Update

Well, Adam is doing his part to help MS conquer our Arkansas Razorbacks. Nelson has forgotten where he was born as he wants to attack the 'hogs', too.!

Nelson is doing great. Adam Patterson sent these photos. The one with big hog was when he took his coaching friend squirrel hunting. His friend shot the hog.
These are photos of Adam's Uncle and his son. His cousin had a new BB gun and he was the sharp shooter for all of Nelson's work! He did great with his gun.
Here is Adam's email:
Here are a few more pictures of my uncle, cousin, and myself after a short afternoon hunt this week. My cousin had a new BB gun, and claimed every squirrel. they had a great time while visiting from Florida. Adam

Love this video!

I think I have posted this video in the past, but Roger Littlejohn sent it to me and I am going to try to embed it again.

Bonnie, Belle, and Lucky Strike

Bonnie treed a squirrel over near the Galla woods Christmas Eve. It was drizzling rain and cold, but she was persistent with her barking so I went over to her. All Bonnie's halabaloo woke Belle up from her nap and she came and joined in. Bonnie had my pup with her, Lucky Strike. You will notice a cord on Lucky. She will come to me but only when she wants to. I use a check cord when a pup is like this to keep her in my control.

When I got to the tree, I could see this huge hole in the base and figured the squirrel was in there. There was not a leaf on the tree and I could not see any squirrel. I was sure it was a fox squirrel as gray ones are rare here near my woods. Anyway, because Lucky was there I decided to shoot the 22 so she could hear the gun and get accustomed. When I did the squirrel jumped out of the tree. I think he came out the bottom and run up the tree and then jumped. The chase was on then and Bonnie, Belle, and Lucky Strike put the squack up this batch of sweet Gum trees. I shot to wound it to see what Lucky would do...but as my luck runs I hit it.
Lucky seemed to get what we were doing. She is 4 months old out of Babe Oyl and Radio Flyer.

Nick Pruitt and Jessie

Gary Pruitt sent a picture of Jessie (out of Rosco and Randi) with his son Nick. Jessie is a sister to June and July and Bell who were all here at Galla Creek when they found homes. This gives a lot of promise to these three. Jessie is about 6 months older than they are--previous litter. Here is Gary's email. You can tell he is pleased with how Jessie is doing!
I took my son Nick and our dog Jessie out for a round. Jessie treed 5 by scent. I was able to knock 2 down to her. We had a blast. Jessie is really starting to click. She is out of Rosco and Randi...
Gary is surely in the new age as he sent the photo and message from his Iphone!

Care For Your Feists

Sigrid came over to spend the night. Her mother reminded her to wear her cap while playing outside. Out the window, I saw her hand feeding Old Belle and look who is wearing the cap.

Went hunting yesterday with this good friend. Opal treed several. Some were in den trees but we shot 3.

Rosco and King Tut

Matt sent a video of Rosco when he was a pup. I like to teach my Feist pups to speak on command. This old video shows Rosco 'talking' when Matt tells him to. When they start treeing you can say 'talk to 'em' and the pup knows you mean for him to bark. King Tut treed another squirrel solo yesterday afternoon and Matt shared the picture with us. I appreciate Matt's love of squirrel hunting!

First Squirrel

Jack and King Tut are full brothers, same litter. Matt took Tut yesterday and he treed his first woods squirrel. Jack has treed a few here on Galla Creek. They are out of Spook and shooter.

Tess

Tess is out of Cork and Max. She lives with Paul Peavyhouse's parents. They had Tess spaded and she added pounds because of it. They love her just the same.

Tucker

Tucker is 8 years old. He is a son of Belle and Ole Max. He stole the hearts of the Peavyhouse family long ago. They will never be the same. Tucker is a great all around dog! We understand how they feel about Tucker as we love his mother the same! In 2011, Belle will be 14.

Old Blue Eye

Roger Littlejohn sent a picture of Smarty. He is a grandson of Ole Max. He has one blue eye. That trait comes from Max. The first few years we bred Max to females....no blue eyes and then in about every litter we would get a pup with a blue eye. Dixie has two blue eyes. Cocoa (below) has greenish eyes. I guess a genetics expert could explain it to us but I don't understand it. Spud and Floyd also throw pups with blue eyes occasionally. Smarty is a son of Floyd and Floyd a son of Max. Their sight is not affected.

Cocoa the Clown

Siggie claimed Cocoa as her dog, but as I suspected the relationship started to sour when Cocoa got bigger and was not just a lap dog. Siggie said we could let her find her own home and she found it with a family (Wayne Cook Family) in Louisiana. Mom, Dad, and two young teen aged girls. The girls were the ones wanting a Feist. I asked if Cocoa would be outside or inside and Mom and Dad spoke in almost unison--OUTSIDE! Well, you can see Cocoa is surely spending at least some of her time indoors, which I know she loves. She is using her nose finding the Christmas cookies and also checking out just how the camera works. Cocoa is out Dixie and Rosco. She has green eyes and is chocolate in color. She is small but no one has told her that. She tries to 'run with the big dogs'. I will post of more pictures of Cocoa lounging in the bed later this week. Thanks, girls for the pictures of Cocoa the Clown!

Another Big Buck

Wayne Hawkins got this big buck in Fannin County, Georgia! What a prize.

Ken Cook Family

Ken Cook is shown with two of his children and his new Feist, Bell. Bell gets to live on a big farm in the woods with I think Ken said 5 children! What more could any Feist want! Bell is out of Rosco and Randi!

Buster's Been Busy

Galla Gulch

We are thinking of renaming our Feist Kennel--Galla Gulch Feists--as you can see our beautiful Galla Lake is about dry. You can also see the defined channel of the old Galla Creek before the earth dam was constructed and the Lake filled with water. Bonnie and I walked the shore yesterday hoping to find treasures folks had dropped in the water from their boats. We found some poor chaps rusted glasses complete with case, a bunch of mussel shells, and soda cans and beer bottles, but no retirement riches!
