Last year, my Martins stayed until almost the end of July. This year they were mostly gone by July 4th. Many of the babies did not make it on their first flight as it was so hot and dry. This is the first year I have seen this happen. I can't wait until next March or April for them to come again.
We have enjoyed canteloupe and have cut a couple of melons. The melons are sweet and good but like those you get in the store and think 'this is not quite ripe'. I think this weekend will be super "cut" day as my Granddaughter Greta is coming and she like her Pop loves melons!
Lee in MS said it was a little cooler so he was taking the dogs on a run each afternoon. This is what he spied.
It is hard to discern in this picture but this watermelon is our largest one. The cantaloupe are getting ripe. I am not sure when we can pick a watermelon....but the little pig tail is not brown yet.
