Lybrand's Cedar

Rev. Lybrand (United Methodist Minister) phoned recently about his little Feist squirrel dog, Cedar. Cedar is young but he hopes to have a good hunting companion when Cedar is trained. Cedar's mother is Mt. View Pepper, a daughter of Old Rowdy. Bruce Bilhovde of Dardanelle owns her. He wanted to have one more litter of pups and when Cedar was born Pepper was going on 10 years old. I took the photo of her below about the time her litter of pups with Shooter were weaned. You can see that Cedar got his ears from Shooter but his looks from his mother. Pepper has the ears of Old Rowdy. It is always nice to hear of the pups from Shooter and offspring of Langford's Rowdy. Hopefully, Rev. Lybrand will send updated photos has he gets Cedar in the woods.

Good looking pup.
Tell the Rev. that he and I should get together and go hunting sometime. I'm only about 50 min north of Mena.

Great looking little squirrel dog. Don't hunt as much as I use too, but occasionally get to the woods in search of the little furry things and still enjoy fried squirrel for breskfast whenever I can get it.
Wrote a poem on squirrel hunting some years back, I'll share it with you:
The Hunt
Sunlight filter to the forest floor,
as shadows dance to the soft breeze.

The acorn waits for the small brown paws,
as a bushy tail flashes and breaks the tune.

The boy's keen eye catches the sound
and the bushy tail blends into the
shadows on the he forest floor.

Nature's sound is shattered.
