Quiet and Still Game!

If I am very still ...maybe they will
not see me...
well, they may see me for they are
looking right at me....

This is better ....I am out of sight...well, they
are still looking.

I will lay down here and then they
will not see me for sure!

Butchering Day

When the November cold comes it was time
to butcher the first hogs in the mountains. The
first photo is Pat McCormack on butchering day
in the late 1940s. The next two are of his grandson
on his butchering day. Pat said "eleven year old Garrison
Scott Brown, our first Grandson shot this buck at about
125 yards. He was hunting about eight miles NW of
Arapaho, OK. Don't know what kind of rifle he shot
but it was a . 223 cal. Last year he bagged a wild turkey
with a . 22 Marlin bolt action. His dad made him dress
the deer out. He got quite a bit of blood on his coveralls.
His Mom named him after his Garrison ancestors."
(Garrison and Pat are my distant cousins.)

Wonder if a dog thinks? Stuart seems to be
saying "let's go off in those woods and look
for somthing to chase up a tree, little friends!"

Arky pup turns Okie!

Fred Allen of Ardmore, Ok. sent some pictures
of our little Spud/Carolina pup that he picked
up last week. He is calling her Jessie and it looks
like she has settled into being an Okie quite
easily.

The last picture is of Fred's son Trevor and
a nice 8 point buck he took recently on a
father/son hunting trip. We hope Jessie will
develop into a good squirrel dog and Trevor
and Fred can take squirrel hunting trips in the
future.

Floyd is almost there!

Pretty Boy Floyd won a hunt this week in
in Champion Class....he needs one more to
be a Grand Squirrel Champion. Floyd is
a full brother to Spud and out of Spook/
Max.

Part of Deans email to us:
Hello Larry and Betty, Hope you and yours are all well.
We just got back from an A.M.,P.M. hunt at Williams
County and Floyd won the champion class of each.
One more win will make him a grand champion.
We came out ahead of some good dogs today including
L.B. Chapmans Indiana Son and Terry McKinney of
Indiana's fine cur Mercedes to name a couple. I am
very proud of Floyd's accomplishments he is just plain
hard to beat at the hunts. He has been in 13 hunts.
He has won 9 times got second twice. to Nell I might
add, and won his champion cast once but another cast
winner came back higher and he got fifth once. Even
more important than that he is a true pleasure to
hunt and we love him like a family member. He
will be buried on our home farm when the time comes.
Thanks again for breeding this special dog!
