Bonnie Sue and Spud

This picture is from 2010, March.  Bonnie Sue and Spud were mad because some geese were on their pond.  The finally swam out and sent them on their way!  Bonnie and Spud are full siblings.  Bonnie is Cora's mother.

Another Cold Day

Too cold for most of us to even go fishing...but this eagle seems to not mind the cool weather and looks like he snagged a snake.

Jed

We heard from the Barbara Bogomolov of St. Louis. The Bogomolovs are proud owners of Galla Creek Jed, full brother to Spud.
Dear friends at Galla Creek, I just wanted to let you know that I'm still doing really well here in Pacific, Missouri. I am still watching over the Bogomolov family and all their animals. They never seem to get rid of any. Instead they just keep adding more. We even have a new puppy. It is a Rottweiler Labrador cross. It drives me nuts. And now it's bigger than me which is a big problem. I still get to go for long walks everyday with my master, the one who talks funny. And now he has his uncle here and they talk funny together. I guess I'm going to have to learn Russian. Well I'm laying on my back in front of the fireplace on the couch. Life is tough for this for misplaced Arkansas feist. Take care of everybody at gala Creek
bye Jed

Zipper / Jack Pup-- Grown Up!

This is Zipper with her 3 pups.  We had an email from the owner of Zippo and he had good things to say.  Here is his testemony--
My name is Gary Shamel we purchased a pup from you a little less than a year ago. I think the name on the papers is Zippo. I wanted to let you know this dog would rather hunt than eat she is great. My wife thinks she is her lap dog but when you say the words squirrel hunt she goes crazy wanting to go hunt. This is the most intelligent dog we have ever owned. We could not find a better dog for us any place.  Thanks

Arkansas Elk In Boxley Valley

We went to Boxley Valley today to see the elk.  They were lounging in Boxley Valley.  Shooting one of these would be like shooting a cow as they acted very tame.

Cub But Not A Bear Loaded

I parted with one of my beloved Cubs yesterday.  This is a distant relative of mine and he is 82.  He wanted a Cub to make a garden again.  Below is a video of his son loading it up for the trip to it's new home.  I had rebuilt the carburetor in this Cub and it really ran nicely.

Cora Treed Today

Cora treed this Fox squirrel down by the pond and Tie was treeing it from his zip line.  We did not shoot it as we don't have any squirrels to speak of.    There was a lot of barking going on all afternoon.

Eli Bays A Bear

Al Larson (Connecticut)  sent a photo of Eli with a bear he bayed! lol  He told that his squirrel season was lousy--no squirrels as they had no acorn crop.  The late season here was terrible. Both Al and I are hoping for a better season next fall!

Thanks, Al, for sharing the picture with us.

Snake Attack From The Past

We don't see snakes around much in the Meadow now.  I guess the dogs keep them thinned out.  This was from summer 2011!

Pups in 2 months plus 2 weeks

Opal is in season; she will be bred to Spud in 10 days.  This is a repeat cross.  Lee Moore's Sadie is out of Opal and Spud.  I had a female named Olive Oyl from the same cross.  Some of the pups will be black and white and some will be mostly white.  Last time Opal had one pup that was colored like Bonnie Sue, Spud's full sister.

Galla Creek Vern Gosdin

Vern is singing his own song on this tree....but I am adding the older Vern singing "I'll Fly Away".   My Grandpa sang it to me when I was just a boy and it is just about my favorite song.  Sorry, but Grandpa was not in church when he favored this song and sang it to me...he was two sheets to the wind.  If you are of the old school you will get my drift.  I loved my Grandpa Renfroe.  He was the nearest thing to a father I had growing up.

Work Day

We spent the day working outside and had some good help--Miss Sigrid.  We planted potatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, green peas.   Also, worked on the Martin apartments.  The red one is the house that blew over in a wind storm late last summer.  I moved some of the houses and now, I have 5 on one side of the pond and one the other.  Still the Martins are not here and the Sparrows are trying out the houses.  I may have to take action against them.

Still no females in season.

Apartment For Rent

We put up two new apartments today.  The hexagon ones are the new ones.  They cost a lot because they are both aluminum not plastic like so many of them now.  We have one on the ground that we will repair.  When the Martins get here there be 6 apartment complexes.   I saw the first scout yesterday and last year they were building nests by March 24.  I look forward to watching my neighbors this summer and also look forward to sitting outside in the mosquito free air!
