Red Tail Hawks & Squirrels

Arkansas Matters posted a video of a Red Tail Hawk with a squirrel in her talons.  I think hawks get a lot of squirrels in Arkansas.  We have lots of Red Tail Hawks.

Teddy, Ike, and Roscoe

This is Teddy--Marc Rutland's male.   He said Teddy is well on his way.  We heard from his brother Ike--owned by Jerry Dean, and Roscoe owned by Hannah Jester.  All three are coming along.  Here is what
Jerry Dean says about how Ike is doing--

Larry
I saw on your web site where Roscoe and Teddy (I think) were doing well.  I just thought I would give you an update on Ike.  He is doing well.  We have use a caged squirrel and small
Coon on him.  I heard him barking at 5:30 this morning.  I did not check on him until 6:30 and he had a small coon treed up the post on my back porch.   He has treed one squirrel by
himself.  It was at my our house.  I thought it was a fox squirrel so I took a 22 to shoot it out for him.  It turned out to be a gray and it jumped.  He treed it about 30 or 40 yards away in another tree.  I could not find it so I let him down this time.  I could not be more pleased with him.  For 6 months old I think he is exceptional.  I will send pictures later on.

Thanks

Jerry Dean

Al Larson lives in Connecticut and owns Eli--great little AR Feist.  We are thrilled with the news and photo.  Here is what Al had to say.  I guess there are a lot of woods in the northeast.  I just think of cities...but I am an Arky Hillbilly.

Troy Vance's Posh Squirrel Camping

Troy Vance's took a hunting trip to the forest recently and shared the pictures with us.  The Feists are Judge Bean and Jack.   Sherry takes credit for the nice camper!  Here is Troy's email:

Thought I would send a pic or two. Squirrel camps sure have changed from the past of sleeping in cold tents and cooking on open fire.  Sherry bought this rv in early spring and it is nice. Nothing like a squirrel camp where you can watch  the Dallas cowboys lose on satellite tv.  We hunted Gentleman Jack and Judge Bean. Treed lots of squirrels but hard to find in the leaves.

My Favorite Two Dogs

Roscoe's First Squirrel

Hannah sent this picture of Roscoe and his first squirrel.  He had a collision with a car but is doing fine and proud of his squirrel.  Thanks for the picture Hannah!  Here is her email:
Roscoe Killed his first squirrel a little while ago. He was so excited and you can see in the picture that he has the squirrels blood on him but he didn't care.
Also just a side comment the scab on his leg that's showing in the picture is his. The other day he ran out in front of a car chasing a deer and it messed his leg up but he's showing great progress and I'm very blessed to still have him!
He's becoming a great hunter and I am very proud of him and his first squirrel!

Albino Squirrel In NW Arkansas

This rare albino squirrel was spotted near Beaver Lake this week.  Rare indeed!

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Zachary Kraft sent a picture of Roxy with her first squirrel  and one with her and Buster.  (Buster is a litter mate of our Cora).  Now, Buster treed the squirrels, but Roxy is finding out what she needs to do.  Zach was tickled as punch that the sound of the gun did not upset Roxy!

Keep sharing the pictures, Zach, we love them.

Roxy's New Family

Roxy met Zach Kraft and his sons, Landon and Tyler when they drove the almost 5 hours to pick her up Friday.  She was thrilled when she met Mom Kraft after arriving to her new home.
I apoligize for this picture odd 'turn' but Zach sent it from his phone and I can't seem to get it to flip!  Sorry, but you can tell that Roxy knows who to 'butter' up to!  Can't wait to see more pictures of Buster and Roxy in the coming months.  I am going to try to post a pedigree of Buster for the Kraft's and then one for Roxy on the Blog with photos of the ancestors.  If I forget, Zach give me a reminder!

Best Plans Waylayed!

Cool weather is coming in a few days.  I was planning to take viper and Tie and Pearl to the big woods.  Well, Viper is in season as is Cora so I still plan to go if the weather cools below 50 degrees, but I guess I will take Pearl and Tie.  Sarge's foot is still hurt from the varmint bite from a week ago.  Viper loves the top of her dog house and she spends a lot of time there.  Guess she has a better view.

Treed Today

Patch and Tie were treed in the fence row today.  It was a fox squirrel!  Had to put Cora up as she is in season so we turned Patch loose.

Galla Feist to New York!

Ocie is going to have a great home in New York.  She will have two young boys as playmates!
Sharon and Brian Winslow of Ossining, New York now have a Galla Feist.  But she is not the first of our Feist to go there.  We are always pleased when someone far away wants one of our Galla Feists!   It is such a compliment.  We don't air ship so that is usually a problem. But Sharon flew to Little Rock rented a car and drove to Galla Creek to get O. C.  She is out of Opal and Oliver and you can see she has stand up ears which is rare for our Feists.  She is beautiful, friendly and calm!   We put a hold on selling our remaining O pups and Roxy until Sharon could get a flight here and pick of the four dogs.  Ocie was pleased to be the winner of the 4 pups we have.
Ocie gave Sarge and Cora a good bye kiss.  Sharon says they will try to plan a vacation this way and bring Ocie back to see us.  She also promised pictures!

Betty suggested I stand on the ground and Sharon stand on the porch so we would both appear to be 6'9".  If you notice in one picture Sharon is not as tall as I am and in the next she looks really tall.
Sharon looking as tall as I am.

This is the bed Ocie will sleep in on the way to New York.  She did not even whine, just closed her eyes like it was a nice place for a nap.
