This is Hagan and Stewart Malone. Sounds like Hagan is doing great. Stewart changed Hagan's name from Sammy. Hagan's parents are Chaney--daughter of Opal---and Tie. He is a beautiful Feist and I think Stewart Malone would have loved Hagan even if he was not turning into the squirrel dog Stewart hoped for as Hagan is just an wonderful buddy. Stewart changed his name not long after he took him home as Sammy found a can of Copenhagan and ate it right down. I guess that got rid of worms, also! lol Stewart and Angela Malone are owners of another Galla Feist from the group we called the O pups. The little female will someday be a mate for Hagan....the story continues! Below we are sharing Stewart's email and want to thank him for sharing the news and update on HAGAN!
Hello Galla Creek,
I could not be more pleased with our Hagen. The picture I am including shows the results of today's 2 hour hunt (3 squirrels). We should have had 2 more but that was my fault not his. We have had very few hunts where he did not tree at least once. We are working on consistency and staying on the tree longer each time. Hagen is also such a people dog that everyone who meets him falls in love with him.
Maggie is also doing well. I do not have any pictures of her that are not a blur because she is always moving, (fast). She trails some and has located a tree with a squirrel in it but she only reared up on the tree and would not bark. She just needs more woods time.

Snow From Last Year
This snow fell last year. All I can remember about it was how cold it was!
Looking forward to spring and temperatures above 50 degrees!

Brairs Everywhere
Briars and thickets are common where our Feists tree. Sometimes getting to them is like going through a maze.

Lil Ann and Romy--Best Christmas Packages!
Snug as a bug in a rug!!!
Lil' Ann is the black Feist with white trim. Her mate under the tree I think is a prick eared Feist from Kentucky. They are both beautiful Feists and I think the best presents under this tree. This chocolate Feist with blue eyes is Ann's littermate Romy. Isn't she rare and gorgeous!
The Ishee's are owners of Romy and Randy Hawthorn is Ann's master. Randy sent the photos and we loved seeing our babes again. We can tell they are loved and have lots of care!

Pepper
Another good one gone!
Pepper--Awesome Aussie
1999-Christmas 2012
Tim Pennington of Kentucky sent word that Pepper had passed away. She was a fine Mountain Feist squirrel dog--born and bred in the Ozarks! Here is Tim's email:
Hello from Kentucky
Hope this email finds you all doing good. Wanted to let you know that one of the best squirrel dogs ever has passed away. I went to feed the dogs Christmas day and found Pepper dead. She was a really great squirrel dog and we had a very good time hunting with her. My two sons were able to
grow up hunting with her. I want to thank you again for selling her to me she was the real deal. Best I can tell she was 13 years old.
Pepper made squirrel champion in three hunts. I raised one litter of pups from her and am not sure what ever happened to them some did start treeing at an early age. A good friend has gone on but will never be forgotten. I still have two dogs but don't get to hunt them as much as I use to. If I ever need another dog or pup you will be the first man I call. Thanks again for a great dog and great memories.

FAT BOB
Steve Conn of Texas sent this photo of Fat Bob who they call Max. Looks like Fat Bob did pretty well in this squirrel hunt. We named his litter of pups from Lia and Spud after motorcycles. Thanks for sharing with us Steve and here we will share your email message!
Max ("Fat Bob" Lia X Spud) and some of my Grandchildren after a Squirrel hunt on 12-22-2012. This hunt lasted about an hour. We were treeing so fast we didn't have time to stop and take a break. It caused one of us to have an accident!!

All Connected Like a Chain
Matt Parker shared the picture of Ole Dan from their latest hunt. Dan is an uncle to our two pups below. Catfish and Macie's mother is a littermate to Dan. They remind us of Dan but they are red where he is black and their freckles are red! The sire of our pups is Spud and their mother, is Rodney Bowen's Sugar, Dan's sister!

Roxy Treed One! Zack Bagged It!
Roxy is out of Spud and Larry Ellingson's Belle! She treed by her lonesome this week. I hope Zack Kraft is pleased because we sure are! She is just a baby....but what a baby she is! Beautiful too!
Here is Zack's email--
Roxy really set the woods on fire this morning! She treed one by herself with no help. I heard her whining and found on a tree. I saw the squirrel and waited for her to bark then shot it for her. She's whined at a few already but this was her first good bark, and at 6 months I couldn't be more proud. We have some refining to do, she also jumped a deer, some wood ducks, birds and lots more. Pretty much everything living in the woods felt her presence, we had a lot of fun. Buster treed a few more but we couldn't find them.
Thanks again,
Zack

Road Hunting
We usually do what is called "road hunting". We drive down forest roads and the dogs run in front of the pickup truck. When they ear, smell, or see a squirrel they jump about 3 feet in the air and bound off toward the target. We stop the truck and wait for them to bark treed. We don't rush to the tree. We give the dogs time to "settle" on the tree and give a strong barking signal. At this time we park and go to the tree.

Timbering
Two short, short videos showing what happens when the squirrels moves out into the tree tops--or what we squirrel hunters call timbering!~
Now see the squirrel hanging in the tree as he moves through the tree tops.

Al and Eli in Connecticut
Saw this picture of Al and Eli on Facebook. From what I read, Al does not live near the tragedy that occurred in his state of Connecticut. Not knowing what is appropriate to say--I will put forth these words from an excellent source--The Bible!
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
Psalm 46: 1-3

In A Hole!
Viper treed hard today. As you can see this one was in a hole. Betty got another short video of Tie and Viper treeing and when the squirrel timber she got it barely hanging in the tree. She also took lots of pictures. We had a lot of den trees but still lots of good times. Check out the video below. Folks have been asking for a little long ones. It takes us about 15 minutes to upload a 15 second video. This one is about almost a minute. Took a long time to upload so I hope you will take a peak!

Double Team?
Troy Vance went to the Bottoms to squirrel hunt! Thin in bushy tails so he made the best of the situation and switched gears to crappie! Here is his explanation of the fish hunt!
Renfroes--We stayed up in Sulfur bottom last week and the squirrels were ugly to us but the crappie was hungry. Caught these in two trips and they sure fried up good in the ole black pot Troy Vance

Tressie
We received a Christmas greeting from Rodney Fontaine and news of our little Tressie--out of Carolina Crossfire and Spud! His email is below!
Mr. Larry,
My name is Rodney Fontaine. I bought a little feist from you a few years ago. Right after I bought her I became disabled and had to give up hunting all together. I sold Tressie to a man in Texas. He hunted her the first year he got her with his other dog. The second year he hunted her as the lead dog and killed over 100 squirrels over her. I got her treeing and won bench champion with her the first year I had her before she was a year old.
I was thinking about you and wanted to send you and your wife a Merry Christmas.
God bless you. Owning that little girl was one of my favorite times. I have had one knee replaced and will be getting the other one next year.
