Snickers Tailgatin'

We got an email From Craig Adams of Texas and new pictures of Snickers. She treed this squirrel by scent and we are proud she is putting it all together. Here is Craig's message:
Hello LARRY and MRS.BETTY, Thought I would send yall a email and wish yall a happy Thanksgiving and send a few pictures. This is the first squirrel snickers has treed by scent. She kept going to the tree and looking up and around for the squirrel to move, once I tied her to the tree she barked a few times. I managed to knock the squirrel out to her. My wife told me to take her dog roscoe but as you can see he wasn't up to the task. He said it was too cold outside. lol hope yall like them. CRAIG

Another Rowdy

Robert Burris of Opelousa, LA sent pictures of Popular Grove Rowdy he had taken. One is the day we met and he got his pup. The other one when Rowdy was just a pup was showing him what a crawfish boil was. Robert wrote a letter about Rowdy and I am going to type part of it in. We appreciate him taking the time to send a snail mail letter and real pictures so we could see Rowdy again. He is out of Pris (granddaughter of Old Rowdy) and Dan (Grandson of Old Rowdy twice) and he sure looks like old Rowdy's son we once owned out of Bell and Rowdy! Thanks again, Robert and we hope you will write again. Letter below--
Mr. Larry,
Here are the pictures I promised. We could not be more prould of Lil Rowdy! He is smart, friendly and hard hunting and his progress continues. I have been hunting him with Lemon Drop, a finished Feist I got from Bill Bradford. He is going to Mr. Bradford's training pen three months and that should finish him out. I will probably want another pup in the spring--a little girl from Ohio Lia and I hope you breed her to Spud.
Thanks Again, Robert Burris

Deputy and Dixie

Coach Matt Howell of Mansfield, Ar came by Sunday returning home after going deer hunting in Heber Springs. He took Dixie along and when deer hunting was over he took her on a little squirrel hunt. Dixie (out of Dobs and Max) treed her first squirrel and Matt shot it out to her. She brought the squirrel to him. He said she even timbered it a good ways. Matt said Dixie's first squirrel was more exciting than getting a deer.

This is Dixie's littermate Deputy. He lives with the Westbrook's in Texas. Jo sent us his picture and a little news about what he is doing. He will be jealous when he learns his sister has already treed her first squirrel. I bet he is right behing her! Her is Jo's email:
Hi Larry and Betty,
Just thought I would send some pictures of Deputy. We call him Trooper. Danny has been working with him on a caged squirrel and putting a squirrel tail on a fishing rod and having them chase it up a tree. The one picture is Trooper and the pups out of The Vance's Judge Roy Bean looking up on the wood shed at the squirrel tail. They love to play that game. They sure are smart and keeps a good eye looking up. And as you can see Trooper is sitting on his perch on my chair, in the house. He has not made it to the kennel yet. I have spoiled him and he sleeps at the foot of my bed. Spoiled ! He is going to make a great squirrel dog.

The nights this guy comes around no one else is allowed. He sleeps then eats and it continues all night. All other visitor are bared from the table.
The three amigos came by one night before the action got heavy!

Another Rowdy!

Robert Burris sent me an update on the pup he got from Old Rowdy's granddaughter and Galla Creek Dan. He named his pup Rowdy after his Grandfather. Dan is out of Nogo Nell (old Rowdy daughter) and Romeo (Old Rowdy Grandson). So Old rowdy was in his pedigree 3 times. He even looks like the Old man. Here is his email and hopefully he will send us some pictures by snail mail like he promised.
Dear Mr. Larry, This is just a little note to let you know that the pup I bought from you treed his first squirrel by himself last week just before he turned 8 months old. By scent only! He bayed it for a good while. I will send you more info and pictures by way of real mail because I do not know how to do it on the computer. Thanks again for letting me get such a great pup. Rob Burris

Keith Stanton and Pence

Keith Stanton of near Pine Bluff has picked Pence (Spook/Shooter) as his new squirrel dog. Keith has a male dog out of Annie Oakley. When he came to Galla Creek, memories rushed in of days when Annie Oakley and Pasty Montana were pups here long ago. Annie and Patsy's parents are Belle Starr and Ole Max, born in the spring of 2004. Annie is almost 6 years old now. I would love for David Lynch to send me a picture of her. Keith said Annie was a humdinger of a squirrel dog. She rules the Lynch household and also the woods. Patsy Montana moved all the way to South Carolina; a deputy sheriff in a smaller town there owns her. After Patsy left we have not heard from her. I wish all the folks who own a Galla Creek dog would send me a picture! Sure hope Keith will share photos of 6 Pence along the way!

Galla Creek Gum Drop

Drop has a new home with the Roy Tolbert family of Dover, Tenn. Roy has just retired from the United States Military--39 years as a Green Beret. The Tolbert's have an older Feist and Drop will be a new addition to their family. They were vacationing at Branson, Mo. and we met them at Harrison with Drop. The picture includes: Roy, Mary Susan and Wesley Tolbert with Drop. They sent this email about how Drop was fitting into the family. They are still at Branson, Mo.
in their camper. Here is what she said:
Betty and Larry,
We just wanted to let you know that Drop has settled in nicely. She is running around the camper like a tornado right now after a nap! :-) She is the perfect puppy for us. We are thrilled with her and wanted you to know how well she is doing. She took to the leash without any problems at all and goes for long walks every day.
Thanks and take care.

Rev. James Lybrand's Cedar

Cedar is out of a Old Rowdy daughter and Shooter. Rev. James Lybrand of Mena bought Cedar from a man in Yell County, Ar. The Rev. grew up hunting with his grandfather and a Feist squirrel dog. He prayed that Cedar would make a good squirrel dog for him. He has had Cedar about a month I believe. Well, Cedar is living up to theReverand's dream. Here is part of two of his emails. The Rev. has bought a 6 month old female from Matt Howell, Sadie, out of Rosco and Dot. So now he has a pair. Seems it is hard to have just one squirrel dog!
Saturday Nov. 7, 2009
I wanted to send a update on cedar. This week I decided to hunt him for an hour or 2 every morning before Deer season. Oh also I laid hands on him and prayed for him Monday. Well after that we treed over 20 times and I came home with my limit. Then every other morning we went out and came home with at least 5 everyday. He is still pretty loose on the tree but I could not be happier. On wednesday he also treed a fox and he was solid on him but of course he could see him. Total squirrels taken on him is 29 and we are fired up. Let everyone know that God hears our prayers and he can even bless these little dogs.
Wednesday Nov. 1l, 2009
Another update on Cedar we went out this morning and had our limit in 2 hours just this week he has brought down 16 bringing his total to 45 since last monday 1 1/2 weeks!! Go Cedar!!! I am so proud I can't contain myself. Now he is still loose but getting better every day. I hate that we are going to have to take off 3 weeks for deer season but I guess we will make it. That will give Sadie time to get to know us. Yea she is now a preacher's dog can't wait to get them out together. Thank you for letting me brag.
Rev. James Lybrand

Baby Face Nelson

Got an email from Adam Patterson that Nelson is rearing to go to work. Here's his email:

Larry, It was hard to find many squirrels due to so many leaves, but Nelson treed really well. The leaves should be off in the next couple of weeks, and I'll send some more pictures. Nelson is doing a really good job.

Not One But Two

Pete Reimold and his daughter, Julie, came from Buchanan, Tennessee, to pick up his two female pups. O'Malley (out of Ollie/Max) and Piper (Spook/Shooter). Pete and his wife work at the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. O'Malley is really a laid back pup, but Piper may make up for that! We can't wait to hear from Pete about how the two turn out. Hopefully, Julie will share pictures of the two Feists with us. Pete says he is only at stage one when it comes to computers.

Dog Spa

Barb Wright sent this picture of Daisy (Spook/Max) and Sugar (Tia/Radio) relaxing in front of the heater. Looks like a tanning bed to me.

Happy Birthday Rosco

Matt Howell sent photos of his Feist Rosco who turned three today. Looks like they had a great celebration!
