Lia / Max Litter

Well, my first litter of pups was born last night. It was a long night.
First one was born at 8 PM last pup was born at 1 AM this
morning. 5 males 2 females. Betty named them after the 7
children of Leah and Jacob in the Bible. The boys are Rueben,
Levi, Simeon, Judah and Issachar The girls are Dinah and Zebby.
Betty had to make a girl name out of Zebulon LOL. The 2 girls
are the ones on each end.

This is a grandfather / granddaughter cross! That is supposed to
be the classic line cross to make. Tommy Collins has a young male
out of Lia's (Spud is the sire) last litter who is treeing good.

Snickers

Snickers is out of All Cranked Up and Spud. Craig Adams
of Texas owns her. He sent an updated photo--she is really
maturing. Craig is anxious for next squirrel season to get
here.

For Love of Lia

This is a heating pad with a hard plastic cover.
It is made for a dog to lay on and keep warm .
Greytail on Sq. Dog told us about them. We have
two. This one is going into Lia's whelping house
tonight. Her pups are due March 29. It is supposed
to be cool. We have never been able to raise
pups in cooler weather, but with these pads I think
we will be safe for litters from March 'til November.

Galla Creek Flint

Tommy Collins of TX sent pictures of Galla Creek Flint.
Flint is treeing and developing into a squirrel dog. Tommy
missed the squirrel on his first shot and he said Flint turned
and stared at him as if to say "do your job, I am doing mine".
Flint is only 8 months old...he is out of Lia and Spud. Lia is
due to have a litter of pups in a couple of days. She was pleased
when we told her about her son, Flint!

Wright's Sugar & Daisy

Barb Wright shared these pictures of Sugar and Daisy
hunting this week. Sugar is out of Tia and our Radio
Flyer and Daisy's parents are Spook and Max. Barb and
Dean keep both these lucky dogs in the house where Barb
also has a Day Care. When the house is too crowded she
puts the two girls outside or in the basement. I think it is
safe to say Daisy and Sugar are cousins...several ways.

Bringing a Smile to my Face and Heart

I received this email from Keith Stanton, who owns a
Feist who is a son of Annie Oakley. Sometimes I get
discouraged and then emails like this one pick me up
again---here is part what Keith said.
Mr. Renfroe, I have a couple of questions but first let me
compliment you on your webpage. I enjoy checking back
for the the updates and recommend it to everyone that asks
me anything about feists and/or squirrel hunting.
My name is Keith Stanton.I am fairly new to squirrel hunting

with dogs but enjoying it more everyday. A very good friend
of mine started me into this habit and sold me my first really
good dog. My pup was born in may 2005 and we were in the
woods 6 months later. At 18 months we were starting to get a
good idea of things and it kept getting better until this past
season when he really turned on. I had the greatest time
and best season that anyone should ever expect. My friend
you may remember is David Lynch. David bought a female
from you out of max and bell and a male from Kevin hardastle’s
snow scout and rosie of vines. David got only one litter from these
two before the male got killed by a car. (My pup is from this
cross.)
Thank you for your time and thanks again for all of the helpful

information on your webpage. I’ve enclosed a couple of pictures.
The young man is the latest victim of squirrel dog addiction.
Thank you
Keith Stanton

Annie Oakley, daughter of Belle and Max, with David
Lynch in January 2005. David came last year and
bought another Feist, a pup out of Bonnie Sue & Shooter. Here is Keith's male out of Annie and a Snowball Feist.

Bell and Redfern

When Belle was younger, she looked like Redfern. Now
she has a lot of white around her face. She had the
same black eyeliner around her eyes when she was
young. Belle is Redfern's Great Grandmother.

Season's Over

I am out and about--squirrel season is over.

Rowdy Grandkids

Victoria Scroggins with the Pris and Dan's litter. The little male closest to
Victoria is still available.
The two pups lying in front are the females...we get the white one and
Phillip is keeping the little black and white one.
I think old Rowdy would be proud that he has some
new grandkids. These are Phillip Scoggin's pups
from Pris and Dan. Both Pris and Dan go back to
Old Rowdy. Dan also has Belle as an ancestor.
Phillip sent photos of the entire litter.

Old Rowdy Pups!

We have three male pups out of Phillip Scroggins'
female Pris. Pris is out of Bruce Blihovde's Pepper
and Pepper is out of Old Rowdy. The father of the
pups is Tommy Collin's Galla Creek Dan. Dan is out
of Nogo Nell and Romeo. Nell is out of Old Rowdy
Romeo is son of Bell...Bell a Granddaughter of Old
Rowdy. These pups have Old Rowdy in the pedigree
THREE times. We are getting a female to keep and
are so excited about her. We will call her Rowda
and will say it like Rhoda! They are way down in Texas, but
we will pick up all 4 in about 6 weeks. Tails were
docked today.
Update: All these pups are sold. Randall Hood of LA
gets the white male pup. Parkers of Cabot have spoken
for the white male with black spots and the white
male with brownish spots is going to Robert Burris
of LA!

In Training!

Proverbs 22:6--Train up a child in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Tim Taylor sent this video tribute of his first squirrel
hunting season with his Feist dogs and hunting companion--
Preston. We are pleased to share the memories with you.

Dan Maples Lost

I have been letting Dan Maples run out. When I got up
this morning he was gone. I called and called...when I
fed the Kenneled dogs he did not come home. He does
not like strangers and I did not think someone picked
him up. He had a collar on with my name and phone number
on it. By late this afternoon he still had not come home.
I had rode the mule up and down the road, down to the Lake,
over to Galla Meadow! He was nowhere around. LouisAnn was
running out with him and she was still here.

My Granddaughter Astrid and I set out on a hike up Crow Mt.
about 3:00 looking and calling. LouisAnn was with us. Finally,
we sat down on one of those big rocks to rest and we could hear
a faint whining of a dog. Up the Mt. we went higher and higher.
Betty has been having a varmit try to get in her chicken pen. I
think it may be a Bobcat. At last we saw Dan Maples...wish I had
taken the camera. He had chased something and he was high on a
ledge and could not get down. It was not easy for this fat boy to
get up to him, but I did and he was happy to come home again.
LouisAnn was a big help in locating him.

I appreciate Dan more now he is home. Don't know how much you love
something until you almost lose it!
This picture of Dan is from February of this year. He is a beautiful
dog--out of Bonnie Sue Parker and Shooter.

Ol Hickory--Boat Hunting

Sterling Earhart sent this email today about huntin Hickory (out of Radio &
Tia) from a boat...it sounded like so much fun, I thought I would post it--
I think Hickory will just get better. I had one great afternoon
hunt with him right before season ended. I hunted him on one
of the big island at the lake. He smelled a sq before he got out
of the boat and headed out and treed I shot that one for him
he took off and treed another one pretty quick I didn't shoot
that one. For about another hour he about run me ragged around
that island treeing, sqs timbering to dens bailing out to dens and
I shot one more to him after it bailed out and went up another tree.
I had to lead him back to the boat after dark but it was fun.

Moonshine Fizz & Galla Lake

These two pictures are not related at all. I took the photo of my
little Galla Lake yesterday from the earth Dam that blocks
Galla Creek. The picture of Moonshine Fizz is about 4 years
old. Fizz is out of Nogo Red and Romeo. Red was a full littermate
sister to Nogo Nell..out of Old Rowdy. Romeo was from Bell and
Max. I sold Fizz to a guy who owned a construction company in
Texas...have never heard from her since. Sure would like to know
how Fizz is doing.

Cheap Hillbilly Squirrel Feeder

This is one of my favorite squirrel feeders.
Drive a nail in a tree--cut the head of the
nail off--stick an ear of corn on the nail.
This is a feeder anyone can afford.

Two Red Dogs!

Belle Starr is back home. I let Lucas Parks keep
Belle for over 6 months in Mo. I wanted him to
be able to get his Hawkins dog going. Hawk is
treeing squirrels and barking treed. I met Jeff
Parks in MO. and brought Belle home. I have her
Great Granddaughter Red Fern. Belle did not
think much of another red dog on Galla Creek.
They are a lot alike! Belle Starr is almost 12
years old. She is a granddaughter of Old Rowdy.
Her heart is bigger than any dog I have ever owned.

Paisley and Stuart

Kevin Fulgham sent photos of his two Galla
Feists--Stuart and Paisley. Stuart seems like
he has settled right in! Kevin said now each
boy has a Feist--Paisley is Ethan's dog and
Stuart will be Clinton's.
