Fred L. Allen
Services for Fred L. Allen, 54, Dickson,
will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30,
2008, at Griffin-Hillcrest chapel. Interment
will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Born on Nov. 9, 1953, in Lindsay to Gene and
Mary Bittle Allen, he died on Jan. 27, 2008,
in Love County. He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Fred graduated from Dickson High School
and worked for Valero Refinery the past 20
years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and
member of Red River India Shrine Temple.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include a son, Trevor J. Allen
and wife, Lacy, Durant; a daughter, Mary
Montanna Ducharme and husband, Billy,
and a grandchild, Halie Ducharme, all of
Marietta; a sister, Connie Allen, Denver;
a brother, Scott Allen, Indiana; and his
special friend, Melissa Windham, Ardmore.
Bearers will be Jim Fischer, Thad Sandusky,
Jim Garner, David David, Tim McCullers and
Charles Allison.
Fred came to Galla Creek last fall and bought
a Spud/Carolina pup. We called her Stitch, but
he changed her name to Jessie. He loved that
dog and emailed us recently that he wanted
another one from the same cross next litter.
We have no guarantee of a certain number
of days. We don't all even get 4 score and 10.
I say go hunting today...tomorrow may never
come.

Lia and Spud
When out hunting I can usually call my dogs in
by honking the horn of the truck...if they are
treed they will not come. If dogs get over a
little hill or a big one sometimes you can
hardly hear them. Here are Spud and Lia
coming back when I told them to! I am going
hunting today. Big question is who will I take...
I am taking Slew as I am trying to get her in
some squirrels. Who else goes...well I have a
big list to choose from? Who would you take
if you were me? I have Dobs, Spook, Cranky,
Jim E, Carolina, Lia, Bonnie Sue Parker, Bell
Starr, Spud, Stuart, and I bet I left forget one.
In 6 month old dogs...I have Randi, Ditto, Dot,
Good Gollie, Ollie. I only hunt one or two dogs
at a time so usually 4 is all I haul. Let you know
tomorrow who got to go. It is supposed to be 60
or 70 here today.

Astrid and Opal Squirrel Hunting
Well, if you listen I am huffing
and puffing because Opal treed way
up a big hill. Also, little 7 year
old Astrid is shooting into the hole
where the squirrel is. You can hear the pop of her little gun and
hear her say "talk to 'em girl" and
"out of bbs". This video is precious to me.

Pretty Boy Floyd
went squirrel hunting with the young dogs and
he did not get to go. The bottom two are of him
treeing as Dean felt sorry for him and took him
along. He treed several. Dean got 6 squirrels in
less than 2 hours and that is pretty good work!
The Story of Floyd, Dean and Barb
Galla Creek had a litter of pups out of Spook
and Max. We named them after outlaws--
4 males, Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face
Nelson, Bugsy Seigel, and Clyde Barrow.
There was one female in the litter--Bonnie
Sue Parker. Barb has a daycare and had
a black and tan Feist that was good with
the kids in her care. He got a bad disease--
can't remember what it was--but when she
lost her Feist she wanted another one. She
looked on the internet and found our Feists
in AR...she fell in love with the white male,
Floyd.
Barb and Dean live in up state Ohio
and Dean kept Beagles to rabbit hunt, but
he really wasn't a big squirrel hunter.
Well, Barb told Dean she wanted a Feist
and a certain one in AR....Dean thought
she could find one a little closer to home.
Barb had her heart set on Floyd...so sure
'nuf Dean drove all the way here and got
Floyd for her. Now all these years later
the Feist is Deans and the Wrights
have made more trips to Galla Creek and
have a whole Kennel of Feists. Dean does
not rabbit hunt as much as he used to...he
is busy squirrel hunting!

Galla Creek Dan
has the build of Nell. Tom Collins of Texas owns
Dan. He has a pup out of Sparky and Amos, Ann.
Both his pups are treeing and he loves them.
That is always the best part of the conversation
when we talk to folks about Galla Creek Feist...
they love the dogs. We want to raise excellent
squirrel dogs, but we want them in the hands
of responsible owners so they will have a good
home!
Dan and Ann are both treeing up a storm.
We heard from Baby Face Nelson yesterday.
Adam Patterson of MS owns him. He said
they had a good hunt and Nelson treed a
bunch. Adam killed eight and it did not
take long. Wish he would send us a
picture of Nelson on the tree. Nelson is
from the same litter as: Bonnie Sue
Parker and Pretty Boy Floyd.

Responsible Owners
What does every dog deserve?
1. Food
2. Shelter
3. Exercise
4. Caring Attention
Everyone who owns a dog should provide
food, shelter, exercise and caring attention
to their pet. Randy Fontaine sent pictures
of the home he had fixed for Tressie and
we can see that she is going to receive all 4 of
the basic dog needs!
