Dobs is Treeing at 5 Months!

Yesterday in the early morning all the dogs
were barking and I went out to see what was
going on. I heard a dog treed up on Galla Ridge
behind my house. I took off up there with my
gun and one shell. Well, little Dobs had treed
her first squirrel. I missed it and let her down.
She is not letting me down. She was treed this
morning again before 8 A.M. She knows what
this is all about already. In about a week or so,
I will have to get her in the Kennel. After the
dogs really take off, I kennel them and it really
lights their fire to go. I don't want to burn one out
by letting it do too much too early. Dobs is out
of Spook and Peanut. She is a little over 5 months
old. I have 3 pups from this cross, and my friend,
Matt Howell, has one, Rosco Cloud!

What's You Lookin' At?

bare acorns this fall? I am wondering! He is
wondering too?!!

Cool Spot!

Do you know what this is.....

ROAD HUNTIN'...easy way to hunt. You
drive down the road behind the dogs...they
go off and tree and you stop and shoot the
squirrels and then take off again. Nothing
is more fun that road huntin' with my
partner...you can see the top of her head
watching the Feists out the windshield!

Dean Wright's Kennel

Dean Wright is building a new kennel. It will
be warm in the winter. We hope to have an
inside kennel by next year. It is hard to whelp
pups in cold or hot weather. Dean's Kennel is
looking good. Hope we can show you ours this
fall!

Little Lost Sheep Came Home~Dibs!

The three D's!

These are Dibs, Dabs and Dobs...our 3 Ds.
Matt Howell has the 4th pup, Rosco Cloud.
Yesterday little Dibs was gone. We worried
like Jesus would for a lost sheep. Dibs has a
tail as she was so little at birth we were afraid
to dock her tail. She might have not made it
though the blood loss. We found her on the
neighbor's deck. We think she chased their
cat up on the high deck and was afraid to come
back down the stairs. We are so glad to have
her home. She went back to the kennel. The
D's are out of Spook and Carver. We have high
hopes for all three D's. Matt has hope for Rosco!

Butch

This is Max' brother, Butch. An old man from
Cabot, AR owned him. Some big dogs his neighbors
had killed Butch. He was a good dog. Butch was a little
bigger than Max is and he had the coloring of his mother,
Kloss' Lady.

More to life than Huntin'

Yep.......there's fishin'!!!

Down in Louisiana, Steve R. had some luck
fishing yesterday and he shared his catch with
me. Here's what he said.....
"8 and 11 probably are the best, none show how big
this large mouth bass really is, 9.5 lbs., 25 inches long,
17.5 inch girth, caught at Baker's cutoff today.
Forty catfish and one bass."

Carolina Crossfire's & Pups!

Red Raider

Carolina Crossfire had this litter of pups a year
and half ago. The father of the pups was Baby
Face Nelson. She is due this week to have pups
and the father is Spud. Baby Face and Spud
are full brothers from different litters of Spook/Max.
I am wondering if her pups this time will look
like this litter. By the time the pups were
6 weeks old (Christmas that year), they
were almost as big as little Crossfire. We
have 5 pups sold from the litter this week.
I can't help but hope there will be an extra
one for me. Crossfire's Dam is Charlie
Cross', Brownie, Grand Squirrel Champion.
Brown Sugar is the first pup I have gotten to
keep out of Carolina. She has been so awesome.
I am hoping to get one out of her and Spud!

Old Feist

Galla Creek's Mom was born in 1932. She
is about 2 here with her a little Feist dog.
The picture was taken next to a cotton
patch in Oklahoma. They went out there
trying to get ahead, but things were not much
better than in the Ozark hills so they came
home to Arkansas and stayed. The Feist dog
came with them.

Brown Sugar Bagged One!

Brown Sugar got her first squirrel. Dabs is
figuring out what squirrel hunting is all about.
First photo is up on the hill where she treed it.
Second one is where I just hung it up in a little
tree so she could celebrate and that she did!

Genes showing Up!

This is Smarty Jones and she was born with a short tail that
is crooked. This is how far back that gene is in her pedigree.
Her mother is All Cranked up. Cranky's father is Romeo.
Romeo's mother is Bell Starr. Bell's mother is Crook.
Crook had the same crooked tail as Smarty Jones, but that
is several generations back. This shows that traits back in
a dog's pedigree, even way back, can show up and will.

Smarty Jones has what I called stacked genes for squirrel
hunting. On both sides of her pedigree...dog after dog after
dog after dog were great squirrel dogs. Surely, she will be
a great one too. She sure has a great personality and it
reminds me of her Great Grandmother, Bell Starr!

Feists hate snakes!

I heard Radio Flyer barking up a storm and went
to check. He had this king snake bayed. He could
not get to Mr. King as he was over on the other
side of the fence. I did not kill the snake as the King
snake feasts on poisonous snakes. If Radio had not
been in the pen, there would have been some 'snake
slingin' going on!

Remembrance!

When she is 30
Will she remember
getting all dirty
in the garden.

When she is 41
Will she remember
Hunting with a gun
and a Feist!

When she is 58
Will she remember
How great
It was to catch and EAT these fish!
